Located in the foothills of the Central Valley of California, Bigfoot Farms grows where the Giant Sequoias wave hello from the ridgeline and the Sierra Nevadas proudly display their colors. Rich in history, this sacred land holds a wealth of resources, thriving ecosystems, and significant geological features. Bordered on the east by the Cascade, Sierra Nevada, and Tehachapi ranges, and framed on the west by the California Coast Ranges and San Francisco Bay, Porterville is where we proudly call home.
We are a family-owned and operated farm, a brother-and-sister duo, Zeb and Amy Witt. Raised in our family business, Witt Hardwoods, we were taught to live with respect for the land that sustains us. From the Sequoia National Forest to the rolling foothills, we have ventured throughout the valley on horseback and hiking trails, exploring, working, and learning from the environment around us. That upbringing instilled in us a deep commitment to caring for the land and our community.
Zeb began his journey as a USFS wildland firefighter with the Fulton Hotshots before starting his farm while still working at Witt Hardwoods, running the sawmill and logging California Buckeye burl. His passion for soil health led him to complete Dr. Elaine Ingham’s Soil Food Web Foundation, and he now integrates those regenerative practices into the farm. Amy is an award-winning author, writer, and photographer who brings her creative vision and storytelling to Bigfoot Farms, supporting Zeb in every aspect of the business along with marketing and media.
At Bigfoot Farms, we understand that everything is interconnected. We are dedicated to strengthening our local food system, feeding and supporting our communities, and cultivating with care. Through our passion for fungi and farming, we aim to demonstrate an approach to agriculture that is ecologically responsible, economically viable, and deeply rooted in respect for the land. Our goal is to be a trusted supplier of premium gourmet mushrooms and seasonal produce for every community we reach, while continuously improving our operations and minimizing our ecological footprint.
